Water treatment systems built for Florida water

Certified water treatment solutions for homes and businesses — designed, installed and serviced by BFW LLC.

01 · City water

Whole-home catalytic carbon & KDF-55 filter

Our advanced backwashing whole-home filter removes chlorine, chloramine, odors and bad taste from every tap in the house — showers, kitchen and laundry included. Instead of ordinary activated carbon, BFW LLC uses catalytic carbon: activated carbon further treated to enhance its catalytic properties. Traditional carbon handles chlorine and common organics well, but catalytic carbon excels at the harder contaminants found in municipal water, especially chloramines and hydrogen sulfide.

Activated carbon has an enormous surface area — just 4 grams covers roughly the area of a football field — which lets it adsorb chemicals as water flows through. Carbon systems help reduce volatile organic compounds, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, pharmaceuticals and disinfection byproducts such as THMs, and specialized carbons can help reduce PFAS “forever chemicals.”

KDF-55 is a high-purity copper-zinc media made in the USA. Through redox (oxidation-reduction) reactions it reduces chlorine, heavy metals and bacteria, and it extends the life of the carbon bed. We recommend carbon in its own tank in multi-stage systems for proper contact time and to protect downstream softeners and RO membranes.

02 · Hard water

Clack® WS1-based water softener

Hard water is one of the most common problems in South Florida. Our softeners remove calcium and magnesium through ion exchange, protecting pipes, water heaters and dishwashers from scale, improving energy efficiency and reducing repair costs. Softer water is also gentler on skin, hair, nails and laundry — many customers notice the difference within days.

We build our softeners on the Clack® WS1 control valve, known for reliability and low maintenance. Metered regeneration starts a cycle only when your real water usage calls for it, conserving water and salt. For homes that also need chemical removal, we offer a combined carbon + KDF-55 softener and filtration system that delivers softer, cleaner and healthier water in one solution, and for well water with tannins we pair softening with tannin treatment.

03 · Drinking water

Reverse osmosis alkaline system

For the purest drinking and cooking water, our under-sink reverse osmosis system pushes water through sediment and carbon pre-filters and a semi-permeable membrane that rejects a wide range of dissolved solids and contaminants. A final alkaline stage adds back beneficial minerals for a crisp, balanced taste — ideal for coffee, tea, baby formula, ice and everyday hydration.

RO works best on water that has already been treated. Pairing it with a whole-home catalytic carbon filter removes chlorine and chloramine before they reach the membrane, extending membrane life. We install a dedicated faucet, check pressure and service filters on schedule.

04 · Well water

Iron, sulfur & manganese breaker

Private wells in Florida often contain dissolved iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide. The result is the classic rotten-egg smell, orange or black stains on fixtures and laundry, and metallic-tasting water. Our breaker system offers chemical-free solutions on well water: it oxidizes iron, sulfur and manganese so they can be filtered out and flushed away during backwash, without adding chlorine or other chemicals to your water.

Because well water varies so much, we always test first and size the system to your iron and sulfur levels and well pump flow. Many well homes combine the breaker with a softener and tannin treatment for complete whole-house protection.

05 · Disinfection

UV water sterilizer

Ultraviolet disinfection is a chemical-free way to make water microbiologically safe. As water passes the UV chamber, light destroys 99.99% of viruses, bacteria and cysts — without the residues, taste changes or environmental impact of chemical treatment.

  • Entire home treated: all hot and cold water entering the house
  • Great value: cost-effective bacteria-free water
  • Low maintenance: typically one lamp replacement per year
  • Energy efficient: about the power of a 40-watt light bulb

Which system is right for you?

On city water, most homes start with a whole-home catalytic carbon filter and add a softener for hardness and an RO system for drinking water. On well water, the starting point is usually an iron and sulfur breaker, followed by softening and, where bacteria are a concern, UV disinfection. The best way to know is a free on-site water test from BFW LLC.

Household size matters too. Tank size, media volume and valve size are chosen around your number of bathrooms and peak flow so pressure stays strong when several fixtures run at once. Commercial properties such as restaurants and offices need higher-flow systems built to performance specs. Whatever you choose, every BFW LLC system is installed with a bypass for easy service, uses durable made-in-the-USA components where possible and comes with guidance on its upkeep.
